Departmental Service
LiLaC Department Advsiory Committee (2021-2023)
During my service, I coordinated communications between faculty members and the Chair’s office, and organized fixed term faculty meetings where we discussed issues of concern and reported to the chair’s office. In the first year of service, I joined a subcommittee in DAC to revise the department bylaws on fixed term faculty promotion. We held focused meetings, discussed revised drafts, solicited feedback from faculty and finally presented outcomes to the DAC and eventually got it approved in the general faculty meeting.
LiLaC Tech and Communication Committee (2023-2025)
We meet on a regular basis to facilitate faculty access and editing to their online profiles, coordinate news stories of faculty achievements, and create guidelines sheets for editing website items. We are currently working on facilitating access to Academic Profile and streamlining the process of annual evaluation by creating a template for the reporting of faculty achievements.
College and University Service
Honors College Seminar Research leader
In Fall 2023, I led an undergraduate research seminar class for the Honors College at MSU under the theme “Middle East Immigration and Inclusion”. In this class, I worked as a mentor for eight freshmen from various disciplines on their research topics which they successfully developed into academic presentations at the University Undergraduate Research and Arts Forum (UURAF 2024).
Reviewer on Scholarship Committees
I was selected as one of the reviewers on the Cole Scholarship at the honors college to reward high achieving undergraduates in their academic journey. I was also one of the reviewers for the Asian Studies Center FLAS fellowships to award funding for study abroad students in Asian languages.
Study Abroad Program in Cairo, Egypt
In leadership efforts, I created partnership with Dr. Mahmoud Azaz and the University of Arizona and established a Study abroad program in Cairo, Egypt where I contracted with Hedayat Institute to offer a program in humanities and global studies. The program is approved and advertised on the education abroad page at MSU. For the previous two years, it has not been launched because of low enrollment, and we are working to redesign it for the coming years.
STARTALK Program Trainer (2021)
I served as a trainer in the STARTALK Critical Language Assessment Program (CLAP) during the summer of 2021. That State-Department funded grant program, hosted by the Second Language Studies Program and the Department of Linguistics, Languages, and Cultures at Michigan State University was a synchronous online workshop over four weeks, aimed to equip educators with the necessary tools and insights for developing effective language assessments, particularly focusing on Arabic and Russian instruction. During the workshop, I led a session dedicated to assessing vocabulary in foreign language instruction, with a specific emphasis on Arabic pedagogy. Drawing upon insights from second language acquisition research, I facilitated discussions and provided practical strategies to enhance lexical development and assessment methodologies within Arabic language classrooms. The videos of the workshop are recorded online
MSU Translation Center (2022-Present)
I am currently an Arabic translator for the MSU Translation Center where I translate documents, surveys and medical or legal records for the MSU community and beyond. I also served as an interpreter for Michigan residents who needed support to access health and humanitarian benefits.
National Service
PMLA Advisory Committee (2023-2026)
this is the official journal of MLA. During my three-year term, I will be responsible for editing and reviewing manuscripts and articles to be published in the journal
Arabic Section Convener (2024-2026)
I was nominated for the AAUSC Award for Innovation in Language Program Direction in 2023. I am now elected the Arabic section convener for (2024-2026) serving American Association of University Supervisors, Coordinators, and Directors of Language Programs (AAUSC) by leading workshops and seminars that address pedagogical issues in Arabic teaching in the US.

Professional Development
- Adams Academy Fellowship (2022-2023) : The Adams Academy provided me with a relaxed and friendly platform to connect with colleagues from different disciplines and share expertise as educators. Engaging in research-informed dialogue with fellow educators and scholars has enriched my understanding of current practices and empowered me to take initiatives in my own language program through refining my open-source curricula.
- Inclusive Pedagogy Fellowship (2022-2023) : This college of Arts fellowship provided me with a professional venue to connect with peers in different disciplines to explore issues of diversity and inclusivity in our classrooms. We explored critical topics of inclusion like accommodating disabilities and translanguaging pedagogy. I learnt a lot about different ways to think about inclusivity and I appreciated the opportunity and space to discuss ideas with my colleagues.
- The ViVID Project (2022-2023): This fellowship, titledVirtual Video-Based Inquiry for Development of Less-Commonly-Taught Language Teachers, provides opportunities for teachers of less-commonly-taught languages to form a lasting virtual community and use video-based feedback to develop skills in reflective teaching and peer observation. It was very insightful to video record my teaching and annotate it then discuss it with peers in different institutions.
In addition to these fellowships, I was also engaged in other LCTL workshops including one on differentiated instruction in May 2023 and I am also registered to attend one on AI and task-based language teaching in May 2024. These venues are significant for instructors to grow professionally, build connections, and exhibit leadership within their units.
